Shelley Skas is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and holds a Type 73 Certificate in the State of Illinois. Shelley has been a part of the Healing Center team since 2012.
She provides evidence-based therapy programs to ensure that skills are being learned and applied in her client's daily life. She enjoys helping parents work on implementing skill sets to manage symptoms and behaviors that are being seen at home, school and in the community.
Shelley strives to make each session memorable, so that the child/teen enjoys their time and doesn't realize that they are receiving therapy all while learning new skills. Shelley likes to make therapy fun, so kids want to come back, because they had a good session. Shelley is a strong believer that one cannot change behavior unless they continue to work on it daily. She provides homework and skills to work on throughout the week. By applying the skills learned through therapy sessions clients can function healthier in their life and reach their potential goals.
Shelley enjoys providing individual and equine assisted group therapy using the Eagala Model. She is Eagala Certified and works directly with Equine Specialists to provide therapy under this model.

THE EAGALA MODEL - EMPOWERING CHANGE
The Eagala Model provides an innovative solution that provides a unique space for an emotionally safe, hands-on experience for clients. With real-time feedback, clients may be able to reach issues where traditional talk-based therapies leave off.
The Model requires a licensed, credentialed Mental Health Professional and a qualified Equine Specialist who structure sessions incorporating horses to effectively address the client's treatment plan or learning goals, helping with issues such as addiction, domestic abuse, behavioral disorders, depression, anxiety, and trauma.
Because horses are highly sensitive, clients can work through their life struggles by interacting with the horses without feeling judgment or interpretation by another person. All the work is done on the ground with no riding involved. The horses are equal partners on the team and are left unencumbered to allow them to interact freely with the client.
Overcoming challenges by being the expert in their own life. Everyone has the innate ability to solve their own problems. The role of the Eagala team is to provide guidance that assists the client's own process and creates lasting solutions. Their stories naturally begin to shift, and have a deeply felt, profound effect.
